i was first introduced to bon iver a few years ago when my boyfriend showed me this youtube video.
i immediately fell in love with justin vernon's heartbreakingly beautiful songs. a few nights ago we went to them at prospect park under the stars and it was as magical as i could have imagined.

here's a clip from the show (excuse my shaky hand!). i know you can't see much, but his voice is unbelievable!!!

one of my former anthro co-workers, miggy recently opened a home furnishings store called twelve chairs with her friend roisin in boston. their philosophy is to offer "beautiful products that are socially and environmentally responsible by integrating sustainability and stewardship into their day to day practices." (read about them about here)

neat right? the store looks so cozy and charming. makes me wish i could quit my day job and open up a shop of my own.
maybe someday!

this weekend i went to the renegade craft fair in brooklyn with my roomie jill (she designed the new banner for me!) it felt like full-blown summer outside (aka lots of sweating) but we had a great time meeting all sorts of artists and creators at the fair.

jill scored some adorable stamps from tara at ink + wit. it was one of our favorite booths!

we also got to meet julia from rennes! her booth had a great setup and got lots of foot traffic!

julia's bags were beautiful and i was sooo tempted to get one but i was good and just got this little zip pouch instead. the leather is soft and so perfect.

for being a terrible blogger the past few weeks! in between being selected for jury duty and work sucking me into several never-ending late nights and early mornings, i have neglected blogging. we're working on a major project and i imagine regular posting will be difficult at least for the next month once the event is over.

caminito in la boca is one of the oldest parts of buenos aires. the area is known as the birthplace of tango and became home to many italian immigrants in the early 1900s. many of the italians who lived there, worked at la boca's port, and brought their tradition of painting the outside of their homes with leftover paint from the shipyard. now the homes on caminito have been repainted for tourists like me to photograph all the lovely colors...

el calafate

one of the coolest parts of our trip to argentina was flying down to el calafate in the patagonia. we got to not only see the perito moreno glacier (!!!) but also walk on it! i have to admit i'm not exactly the most outdoorsy kind of girl so i was a bit nervous about the trek, but i knew i couldn't leave without doing it. the experience was completely unique and the view unlike anything else i've ever seen before.

one of the places i visited during my stay in buenos aires was la recoleta cemetery. the cemetery is famous for the influential argentinians (including evita) buried there, as well as for its over-the-top, luxurious tombs. although it felt a bit creepy to be walking around dead people, there were tons of beautiful details...

hi friends! i'm back from my trip to argentina! i took the redeye sunday night and got into nyc monday morning at 6am so i was pretty much a zombie all day at work. aside from the plane ride back (really long and i couldn't sleep at all), the trip was amazing! for now, i leave you with some pictures from the plaza san telmo antiques market i went to in buenos aires.

i can't wait to show you more pictures from my travels! hope you're all having a good week so far.

this weekend i finally finished the ring i've been working on in my jewelry class! i used one of the stones i showed you a few weeks ago. it's a beautiful silvery blue gray chalcedony druzy from brazil. i love how it feels very organic and sparkles in the light. it kind of looks like a rose too! i'm so happy with how it turned out.

hi friends! how were your weekends? mine was pretty mellow and low-key. on saturday i checked out a ryan mcginley exhibit with friends in soho, then headed over to brooklyn heights for dinner and a movie. we watched the erotic thriller, chloe, starring amanda seyfried and julianne moore (there are some seriously steamy scenes between the two ladies...)

while i didn't find the movie particularly incredible, i did leave the theatre w/ a huge girl crush on femme fatale amanda seyfried. she looked so beautiful and i loved her wardrobe throughout the film.

(i especially loved this coat with the feathers!)

over the weekend i saw tom ford's directorial debut, a single man. the film is about an english professor (played by colin firth) who after the death of his longtime lover, plans to commit suicide. while the plot may seem a bit morbid, i found the film mesmerizingly beautiful and the film's message to be one of hope.

can you believe it's already thursday? i feel as though this week is flying by! i wanted to share a necklace i just finished in my jewelry class. i formed the links from sterling silver, fused them together and then hammered them for a bit of texture. what do you think?

my next project is to turn this guy into a ring! i'm really excited about it. it's a silvery blue brazilian chalcedony and i think it sort of looks like a rose...

now let's hope it all goes according to plan...

liberty of london in nyc!

when i heard liberty of london was doing a collection for target, i was thrilled. when i read about the 5,285 square foot pop-up shop in nyc where the collection is being unveiled before the official launch on sunday, i nearly fell off my chair with excitement! the shop features an indoor garden with 12,500 live flowers, foliage, and larger than life liberty of london prints!

the pop-up shop will be open starting today (11am-8pm) and thursday through saturday (9am-8pm) at 1095 sixth avenue near bryant park.

i'm definitely going to stop by this saturday! are you excited for the collection too?

apologies for the delay in posting this week. it's been quite busy this week at work since my supervisor is out on vacay. how were your weekends?

saturday i had brunch at cafe cluny with friends and and then we headed over to joanna's stoop sale! sunday we went to the whitney, had a late lunch and then watched i the oscars at home with matt. my favorite dress of the night? definitely elie saab's dress on rachel mcadams. i love the watercolor print and the flowiness of it...

happy friday! tim burton's alice in wonderland officially opens today and i can hardly wait to see it! i'm a fan of the story of course, but i think what's going to make the film really special is the visual beauty of it. check out these sketches by the costume designer, colleen atwood who referenced the illustrations from early editions of lewis carrol's 1865 classic when designing the costumes for the film.

loving this line otis & maclain by co-designers shamani hall and andrea cheatham. the duo studied at FIDM in los angeles as well as FIT here in nyc (where i graduated from! woot woot!) and teamed up to create otis and maclain while managing a boutique in LA. their line focuses on simple, versatile pieces made of fancy silks and rayons that are easy to wear.

the happiness project

yesterday my friend julia's picture was included on gallerist james danziger's blog, the year in pictures, and i could not be more thrilled for her! she submitted the photograph below into the happiness project in which readers were asked to submit their happiest picture along with a caption explaining why the picture is meaningful to them. he listed jules' as one of his favorites!

jules on why she chose it:

This is a portrait I snapped of three friends while I was dressed up as Andy Warhol this past Halloween.

It is particularly happy for me because it represents all the fun (and comedy) that is this holiday in New York City. We've got a child's cartoon character, a hot dog, and a vampire all in one frame. It is also special because it represents the surprises that occur when shooting film. The surprise here was that I caught them just at that exact moment of laughter and it made the image much more meaningful.

part of the reason why i love it so much is because the photo is of two of my friends, alex (dora) and gill (hot dog! how great is that costume?), as well as my bf (the vampire). it was such a fun night out in nyc and it makes me happy to look back on it.

i have a really bad habit of losing things. in the past two weeks i've lost earmuffs (who knows where?!) and a pair of gloves (left on the bus). i've lost my wallet a few times and cell phone once. it's not something i'm particularly proud of. i mean what on earth does this say about me?! :/ *sigh* i guess we all have our faults.

as new york city prepares to face another snowpocalypse, i'm very much ready for winter to be over. currently i'm staring out into the snowglobe that is manhattan dreaming of the upcoming spring and summer days when we can prance around and lay on the beach in outfits like these by nadinoo.

how inspiring is this public installation project by artist Pete Dungey? he plants miniature gardens in potholes to highlight the problem of surface imperfections on Britain's roads. here's a quote from him on the project:

"if we planted one of those in every hole, it would be like a forest in the road."

i think it is such an interesting and lovely way to bring attention to the issue. :-)

this past weekend in nyc, alexa chung unveiled her debut collection for madewell at the bowery hotel during new york's fashion week. i'm loving the vintage-y, feminine feel of the collection and am looking forward to seeing it in person when it hits shelves in august.

i think all the pieces are very reflective of alexa's own laid-back personal style...

the third look with the long, high-waisted is my absolute favorite (and check out those shoes!)

alexander the great

today the fashion industry mourned the loss of one its most talented and creative artists, alexander mcqueen. i first learned about mcqueen during an internship at a pr firm in nyc a few years ago. holding his dresses in my hands and seeing them in person was incredible. i remember thinking about the amount of work that must have gone into each and every garment and how special they were.

his creations were breathtaking... like something out of a fantasy dreamworld.

it's heartbreaking to think that someone who seemed to have it all could experience such a sense of hopelessness. i hope that lee has finally found peace.

friends, there is always someone who wants to listen and who loves you in this world. please don't lose faith.

new york, i love you but you're bringing me down

as new yorkers, we have a constant love/hate affair with our city. there are days this city beats us down in ways one can't even imagine. days when we want to yell up to the heavens and say, "REALLY?!?" at top of our lungs and curse the world because it's just not f-ing fair. our minds are led to think, "maybe i just need a break" because the struggle to make it is just so hard and the idea of wanting to actually (gasp!) leave new york enters our minds.

but we can't leave it! because leaving it would mean we were cheating on our beloved city! giving up. quitting. and as julia said to me, "i am not a quitter!"

i know if i ever left new york, it would still be here waiting for me to return but i can't help but feel a bit sad about even just the idea of it. because as many crummy days as i may have, there are millions of moments... beautiful, goosebump-inducing moments that make me smile and remind me just how truly amazing this city is.

and after watching the trailer below, i wonder how the heck could anyone want to live anywhere else?

pete yorn and scarlett joansson have teamed up on yorn's latest album entitled, break up. the record is a collection of duets inspired by Serge Gainsbourg's duets with Brigitte Bardot. the first single, "relator" is quite catchy and i especially love the video! to quote julia, sj is "kind of a major fox." true, true.

the album hits shelves september 15th, but you can listen to the full cd here.

i'm so in love with these dreamy stills from where the wild things are. the muted colors and cinematography are breathtakingly beautiful... makes me wish i was a little kid again.

i just came across pantone's fashion color report for fall 2009. the teal blue, purple, grey, and honey-yellow hues feel very fall to me, while the lime green is a bit more unexpected.
